From what I know of you, this is effective as a self-portrait because it depicts the artist's spirit. You always seem to be pursuing the connections between things: photography and dance. Words and images. In this, I see you projecting back in time to art that was, almost as a tribute to how we all got to this point.

I love the smiling eyes and the little bit of shyness in your smile. I love that you are in the company of "friends," these beautiful spirits in paint and pastel.

Wonderful composition Pnina. This radiates confidence from an accomplished and talented artist. These beautiful faces tell a personal story. First, I like how you approach this composition by using three elements. Things in a trio always grab attention - look at all the artistic interpretations of trinities. Your smiling face in B&W looking at us is well framed by the two smaller faces in color. You are the main protagonist and the other two figures take a supporting role. I love the joyful expression. Your smiling eyes are very captivating and communicate joy. The face on the right seems to be that of a woman contemplating her future, the one on the left is looking down as if doing some self reflection and assessing where she is at that particular point in time. The one in the middle expresses satisfaction and success. You gave us a story of a journey. I interpret the journey as the growth of an artist. Thanks for sharing such a personal statment Pnina. We are honored. By the way, how's the exhibition going? You must be the talk of the town. ;)

A strong and yet gentle face this is. Your eyes look as thought that have seen much, perhaps too much as they look a bit world weary here. Three visions into the heart, each one speaking of something a little different while all clearly belong to one. The drawing, it looks pastel to me, on the left has a feel of the sensual, a great sense of warmth and compassion. The drawing to the right informs of wisdom and confidence, the Pnina I feel I am growing to know. This is a very interesting approach to self portraiture and I like it very much.

I have switched to photography from my painting education and many years of work in that area., the art history is part of my creating, and in some of my work I have dialogued with works of other artists( like in my presentation of "Follow the light" , a presentation on my main page here, and on my last file in my work flow at PN. So it was natural for me to connect my face to faces I love and are part of my inner world. Thank Jeff!

Thanks for your nice interpretation, I did not think of the trinities... while doing it, but more of my connection to the art history.

The face of the L belongs to a painting of Pierre August Renoir( 1841-1919) The one of the R belongs to a painting of Eduard Manet (1832-1883).As I wrote to Jeff, it is part of my dialogue with other artists works.

Thinking of what you wrote about the trinities, it may be subconscious... but I don't really know....

The exhibition is hanged already, and looks very good and fits nicely in the gallery. The opening will be next saturday night.

Thanks for your evaluation, I have a problem of discomfort of photographing myself( also technical...) I like so much to be behind the camera... ( thats what you interpret as "world weary"...)But it was an assignement of my other group, so that was the result....

Thanks for an interesting interpretation, I appreciate it.

Pnina, could you tell me how long ago you did this and why you chose the two painting that you used ? I took them to be somehow representative of something of yourself ?

You know how I am so facinated with self portraits and what they make me find out about people. I ove that not only their are artists here but they look like they are hand drawn. I wonder by who. They look llike they are pencil drawnings. hmm

I also love the feel that even your portrait is a bit pencil itself if I am not mistaken. I love the slight pink tone.

I also found myself almost cropping off at the top part and only leaving the eyes as the center piece of this picture and the faces of the artists as your eyes just are beautiful in this picture the silt light that shines on themm is beautiful. I think they are my favorite part of this portrait. YES!

I love it and thing you should do more. :) ~ yes!

Very few photographers rub shoulder with Renoir & Monet. Your world within and without are beautiful, as evident from this unique image. What do one call this ,collage or montage? We enjoy and learn from your images,Pnina.

It was done in June this year,my dialogue with other artists is significant in my work through the years, many artists in the history of the arts painted women. Why did I choose these two parts of paintings for my portrait? your interpretation was really to the point.!

"The drawing, it looks pastel to me, on the left has a feel of the sensual, a great sense of warmth and compassion. The drawing to the right informs of wisdom and confidence, the Pnina I feel I am growing to know. "

They are both a part of paintings, the colors look pastels in my adding them( manipulation.....) to my portrait, The one on the left( Renoir) was chosen because it looks down , like looking for answeres inside and radiates warmath which I think I have in me.

The one on the R ( Manet) found some of the ansewers and feels more confidence in her art and life, so I think you really did well.

I think that my assumption that every one is familiar with the art history was wrong,( I have learned it and not all the others did) and maybe I should have given more explanation in the begining, but on the other hand, the interpretation without knowing it, may be more genuine as was yours. Thanks Gordon.

Yes, you are good at your self portraits! and I have already cropped a bit from the upper and lower parts, (as you offer).I think that the entire work of mine is a " self portrait",in a way.... so....Thanks!

I know you for a long time and your wide knowledeg , I think I call it "manipulation" and admiration of their work in an era of great changes in the art world of their time, that affected all the modern art of our time.. Adding them to my portrait was a very natural choice of my love to their entire works.

Thanks for your response. In my own case you are correct that my initial reaction was in part a result of lack of knowledge -- my words here not yours. I looked upon the images purely in relation to what I feel of you as a person and how they may connect to your portrait and did not immediately recognize the named artists, although I do know some amount of the work of each and their relative styles. A good lesson for me about how what you bring to the image influences what you take away. Again thanks for the reply.

Pnina, an extremely original composition. It captures and keeps our attention for a long time (which all good images should). You had me wondering whether this is another very imaginative reflection shot, or good PS work - but don't tell me. I like the contrasting expressions between the main face and the smaller historical ones, and the color is excellent.

pnina, So many interesting and insightful comments have been written above that there is little I can add. This is a lovely, arresting, creative composition that kept my attention. I love the elements and the way you used them. Much of your own photographic work is clearly influenced by the impressionists, so I assume that your choice of "painted faces" was both aesthetic and a bit of a tribute. I hope your current exhibit is a grand success. Regards, Joe

Sorry I'm the latecomer here, Pnina! I really like this self-portrait. With both of the images of the women seeming to look toward you, it really draws the viewer's eye to your lovely eyes. Very well done!
