gungajim 75 Posted October 25, 2007 These geoglifs are on a hillside in the Atacama Desert inland from Iquique, Chile. The two utility poles in the upper right give some sense of the scale. This, being the driest spot on the planet, the camelid figures have survived unscathed for the last 1000 to 2500 years. They appear on hillsides along ancient trade routes in N. Chile and S. Peru, particularly at the confluence of rivers and streams. This area is the most prolific with nearly 1,000 figures within a 4km area. With apologies to those who come to this site to learn photography, not history! Link to comment
