bosshogg 4 Posted October 22, 2007 Thanks for looking. I guess it is obvious I'm disparate. But I figure it's kind of like when you fall off of a horse. You have to get back up and ride. So I am/did. Hope to have some more exciting stuff in the future. Link to comment
jcpopper 0 Posted October 22, 2007 Dave, Only you would find the humor in such a tragedy. By the way, it's a damned good image. Regards... Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 24, 2007 Nice comeback with what feels like a pastel drawing. Soft, sweet. Great color palette. Wonderful composition creating a sort of abstract still life from a found design. I can really feel the texture. This is a subtle side of David that is nice to see. Perhaps more thoughtful, a bit pensive, even melancholy. I know the name has humor and all that but I'm not seeing the humor and pretty much ignoring the name. To me, this image is way more than its name or the tone of your voice intimates. It's sweet, and not in a sugary way, but in a mature way. It's got warmth. It's got heart. And it's got soul. mariolupo 0 Posted October 24, 2007 Brilliant, first impression was that you stuck a jelly fish to the wall, or another bizarre alien creature crash landed itself . I like the peeling of layers of paint. The picture has humour and style . Best regards from Mario the bearded barbarian. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 24, 2007 Thanks. I'll be honest, I am surprised you like it. I'm not even sure I do. And your sense of melancholy over humor is a terrific read. I originally was going to call it, "HE DIED FOR YOU." But decided it was not only somewhat sacrilegious but not what most would find humorous. Thanks for hanging in with me. It's greatly appreciated. All the more so since I don't always give you glowing "sweetheart" critiques. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 24, 2007 Thanks. You're too kind. And you may be bearded, but my sense is that you are far from a barbarian. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 24, 2007 Yes, your honest comments are always appreciated. I know going into the kind of photography I'm doing that there is going to be a certain turn-off factor, and I'm actually pleased if some are turned off or otherwise negatively impacted. I'm not necessarily wanting to produce pleasing images and going with that territory will be a certain amount of not reaching people, overreaching people, sending people running away. A good balance of people responding positively and personally and also negatively tells me I'm being genuine, and that's mostly what I'm after. I think your image accomplishes some similar things. It feels personal. Link to comment
mark_q 0 Posted October 24, 2007 I was becoming a little worried as there was no new material. But here you are with a refreshing new kind of capture that did spontaneously remind me of 'Portuguese Man o' War' (or Bluebubble) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portuguese_Man_o'_War Very pleasing color palette, indeed nice find. Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 24, 2007 Hoist the banners, David's back in town. And now we go from the grand vistas and lonely buildings of the Pacific Northwest to a splattered, faded wall. An enigmatic beginning to the next chapter. Fred's reading on this picture struck a chord. Link to comment
alight 0 Posted October 24, 2007 that is funny. Guess there should be some sponge speed limit, eh? It actually looks good, though IMV8O the dark area in the upper LH corner could be cropped out. Good vision, dude. Keep on pumping in that V8! Are you going to put it up for ratings? I think you should. Cheers, Micheal Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 25, 2007 Thanks. I actually did think of jellyfish when I first perceived of this image. Do you guys have Sponge Bob where you live. My grand kids think it's a great cartoon. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 25, 2007 I'm back, but kind of limited at the moment. Still having a bit of creativity problems. Now I've got a family emergency and must head back East in a hurry. Once there I should be able to follow you guys, but won't have much time or ability to photograph. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 25, 2007 You've been kind of scarce yourself these days. I know I said I was going to put everything up for rates, but I just felt like this was too weak to put up for rates, and my frame of mind is not good enough to laugh off the 3/3s from anonymous people who are too lazy to say why they think it sucks. I'm going on the road again Friday morning (read previous comment), so I'll be here and there for awhile. Peace out my V8 brother. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 25, 2007 Sorry to hear about the family emergency. The only silver lining that might be found in that particular cloud is that it occurs in the "real" world, not in that shape-shifting planet between your ears. I am beset with the demons of self doubt constantly and it's hard to be creative when your mouth is full of ashes. Link to comment
shirkwolfe 0 Posted May 16, 2010 I love this understated photo and I especially LOVE your titles. I recently learned that photo judges insist on good titles and yours are an inspiration. :) Excellent portfolio. Link to comment
