Well, it's a good image. No doubt about it. I do wish the shadows weren't quite so deep under the bill of his cap, but I do understand that the ideal is not always attainable. Hell, my images are a real testament to that statement.

It's hard not to make negative associations based on the brief acquaintance one gets from looking at your image. Kind of reminds me of the old adage about only getting one chance to make a first impression. So, knowing full well that I'm being harsh and unfair, I will proceed anyway. I fear this type of gentleman has become the archetypal American. Overweight, unkempt, scarred and tattooed. And, with poor sartorial judgment. There! I said it. But you have captured him in all his splendor. Good work.

Thoughtful comment, as always, Dave. I agree fully with your description of this fellow. You aren't being harsh. In my part of the country, he is the Southern redneck. But he is here; he is part of my community. He too has a story.

As I've gotten older, I've found it harder to distinguish the good guys from the bad guys. If I had a flat tire on the highway, my guess is this guy would be more likely to stop and help than would a member of the liberal middle class crowd. And would I judge this man more harshly than the nicely groomed, tailored suit businessman who has achieved success through exploitation?

Now if you asked me if I would be happy if my son grew up to be like this fellow, I would answer with a resounding no.

Doug, I know this guy, though not literally, of course. And I like him (most of the time). I also like your attitude. Great shot under some pretty harsh light. Regards, Joe
