This was NOT taken in Africa. :-) I took a drive yesterday ... this was taken on Colorado route 14, east of the town of Walden (traveling toward Ft. Collins) near Cameron Pass. I was driving and saw his girlfriend cross the road. I pulled over, and looked up and saw this beautiful creature coming down the same way. I had to stop a couple of cars that were coming around a turn quite quickly ... there was almost an accident ... and he would have done some serious damage. Anyway - I wish that I had gotten a good shot from the side ... but this was the only one that came out clear (I forgot that I had my camera set to ISO100 ... so most of my shots of him came out blurry). I know that the snow is blown out. Besides that, how is it?

The exposure values for the background, foreground and the main subject, if carefully balanced and thought off, this image would have been wonderful, plus for this subject to stand up in its best form, the background should been in bluring shape, this by having a wide apperture used.

Sorry for my English, and I felt uncertain of just saying this image is so beautiful and fooled myself and you.

I wish you all of the best and a successful life and wish you get a great job soon.

Regards from Qatar.

Thanks, Rashed. I didn't have much time to think for this shot ... or I wouldn't have used ISO100. You're right - I wish the background were blurred (maybe I ought to do that in PS....) and the exposure of the snow stinks. *sigh...* I was just so happy that I got a couple of shots of him before he disappeared again!

Sometimes using apperture priority can save you cause you can open the app fast. Nice shot anyway. Also I don't know how much time you had but you could also use the exporsure compensation for the snow.

I almost exclusively use aperture priority. I haven't used the exposure tools in cs3 yet ... I'll have to try that with the snow ... thanks for the idea!

We're very excited for you. Lou Ann. We have never seen a moose, not even in a zoo, and are more than a little jealous. Thanks for sharing.

I *knew* that there were moose in Colorado, but had a hard time believing it ... it just doesn't seem far enough north. But, voila! I saw a sign an hour or so before I saw them, "Moose in area - drive carefully" or something like that. So I was definitely on the lookout. But I didn't need to be on any lookout for these two because they walked right in front of me.

I have seen moose ... but only in Alaska. I have three images of a cow in my portfolio, here, here, and here. And I saw another in Denali National Park - she was tagged (wore a collar) - no good shots of her.

So, yeah, I'm excited that I got at least one decent shot of this guy if not his lady friend who was in front of him. This is the first bull I've seen. Probably will be the last for a long time!

Just checking out your photos but really checking up on you. ;) Are you in Colorado to stay or still on the road. Haven't been in photo.net since we left on September 6th so hope to catch up on everyone's photos. You have some impressive photos... Even though we went to Yellowstone, not much luck in capturing animals. We did see some black bears but my photos aren't that impressive. Oh well, had a great time.
