leo burkey 0 Posted October 20, 2007 It was early morning and an overcast day and spring runoff was at it'smaximum due to all the melting snow from a long winter. The base ofthe falls and the surrounding area is usually flooded due to the shearvolume of the runoff. As with all waterfall images taken under theseconditions without a very long lens, you're are going to get wet.Thisis compounded when you are using a 4x5 camera because of the longsetup time required. After setting up and metering the scene andwiping off my lens and camera for the tenth time I finally made myexposure. I retreated from the scene dragging all my wet equipmentuntil I was far enough to be out from under the mist thrown off fromthe falls. Yes a lot of work went into this image and it was cold toboot. That's what I remember most about this photograph. Was it worthit; you be the judge. What I wanted to capture was the motion of thewater, the mist, and the overall feeling that this wonder portrays. The slow shutter speed showed the movement and the proper processingallow the mist to stand out. Too dark and the mist disappears; toolight and the rock faces lose their volume and contrast. Even a simpleimage as this can be made or broken with contrast and brightness.Several curves adjustment layers and a toning with Ektalure Cream andselenium. Link to comment
