Your B&W work always seems to have exceptional contrast tone and clarity. Do share your secret. What kind of post-processing (if any) do you do for your B&Ws?

Cheers,

I wish I had an original formula to share with you. Right now I do some pretty elementary stuff. I use channels to check the three basic monochrome versions and take note of the one I find most pleasing. I then do the conversion using the channel mixer -- paying special attention to the color range I liked in the first step. I usually tinker with the mix for quite a while. I then adjust with curves, do routine sharpening -- and then maybe some selective sharpening, curves, levels, etc. I'm about to start trying an entirely different approach, but this is what I've been doing for a while now. I wish it were more exciting and original, but it's just your basic trial-and-error routine until I get something I sort of like. Nothing you don't already know. Regards, Joe

These two are so walking together, both with left foot forward. Nice how the big guy is watching the little one and holding his hand so gently. I bet a close in crop of their hands would be nice, too, but you needn't do anything else to this wonderful shot. Regards, David

Stunning b/w, worth the effort in processing. I have been working in the dark room, for a long time , printing b/w images as a job, yours are truly brilliant . Your work with images does show a very good eye and intuition for capturing the moment. Great capture. Best regards.

Joseph,

This is such an sweet and appealing image, very tender and thoughtful. They look like two buddies. I love it.

I love the stooped shoulders of the father. Also, quite like that you have not blured the background fully. hanging laundry gives excellent atmosphere of the place. Very good shot indeed.

I find these simple shots to be much more powerful than the over-the-top, constructed, highly saturated, trying too hard photos that typically rise to the bottom of the heap. In a shutter-click, this captures parental protection, hope, and father-son connection so effectively.

Wishing you all of the best my friend

Another excellent shot Joe...great composition, tonal balance and contrasts. As a father of four and grandfather of eight, this shot really stirs warm fuzzy feelings. Best regards, Neville H.
