wp 0 Posted July 16, 2008 Ive always wanted to say something about this image but never knew it was in your portfolio(saw it as your default image or whatever) Anyway I really like this capture of this man sitting here have a few brews and reading the paper probably just enjoying his Saturday. It reminds me of my grandpa. To me what makes a great image is the soul and mood the image holds. Not as much as technique and perfection. I guess this is why I was never really impressed with Ansel Adams. Yea he had great tones and was a perfectionist though his images were not usually of a interesting subject matter to me and had no soul. Its kinda like a Stevie Ray Vaughn vrs Eddie Van Hallen. Both are good but are 2 completely different. Stevie Ray just plays from the heart and you can feel/hear that in his music. Eddie is good, but there's no soul man. Not sure if that makes and scene but anyways. Good Shot~! Take Care Weston Link to comment

Mike Marcotte 50,318 Posted July 17, 2008 Thanks for taking time on this one. Yeah, those are my dead soldiers lined up in front of the rake. I was doing some yard work at my Mom's place & thought I'd better catch up on the local news. I know what you mean about Adams. He used to be sort of a hero to me, & what a great artist he was no doubt. Some of my favorite images & photographers I most admire though, were from the FSA, Walker Evans, Dorthea Lange, Jack Delano & so on, so when I learned that Adams dismissed this work as propaganda, I was a little disappointed. As far as Stevie Ray Vaughn goes, I agree with you whole heartedly. Even B.B. King said he would have to practice things over & over, but with Stevie Ray, the music flowed out of his veins & into his guitar. Thanks for the comments Weston. nice to hear from you.
