Splendid Leaf Frog

This beautiful Splendid Leaf Frog (Agalychnis calcarifer) can

be found in both central and south America. I was lucky enough to

photograph this elusive frog in Costa Rica. Although this juvenile

anuran seems very beautiful, it is the adults that are spectacular

in color. I believe that this frog's scientific name has been

changed recently, I will update when I have confirmation.

Frogs really do matter and are a big part of the ecological system more than we knowPlease help to Conserve and Protect the worlds froggy population.Frogs by the thousands all around the planet are dying off due to a somewhat newly discovered disease called chytridiomycosis it is very lethal and destructive to amphibians, some species have even gone extinct such as Monteverde's famous Golden Toad, Austrailia's Mouth Brooding Frog and Panama's beautiful Icon the Golden Frog is just about extirpated from the wild, leaving only a small number in captive breeding programs. At this time there are a few conservation projects in place to collect some of the species and propogate them in captivity so that one day they may be released back into the wild once it is safe again.
