gatzelis 0 Posted October 10, 2007 Good morning Joseph. Great capture. The colors and tones are wonderful. Simple steady frame with blur enough background to accent the Portrait. My best regards Yiannis. (Not only things... Portraits too are remarkable) Link to comment

lyoung 0 Posted October 12, 2007 Joseph, You did capture a very nice facial expression. Especially in the eyes. Very natural, no fake smile (cheese). The focus on the subject and the DOF are excellent. The pose (angle of the man shoulders) not facing you but just the head turned a little is great. I like the composition/crop too. Bravo! teresa.zafon 0 Posted October 12, 2007 I love this croped version too. Have you tried the B&W here? Link to comment
jcpopper 0 Posted October 13, 2007 Thanks so much. I've been fooling around with a b&w version but haven't yet made up my mind. Regards, Joe Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted October 15, 2007 Joe, you look at this man's eyes and you sense that what you see is what he is - honest and direct. I'm surprised that I prefer this over the black and white. But I find that my eye wants to go to the light part of his cheek and neck in the gray one, and here I'm drawn to his eyes. Either way, its a top notch portrait. Link to comment
jcpopper 0 Posted October 16, 2007 Doug, I know exactly what you mean, believe me. I've wrestled with a lot of versions of this shot. I'm still thinking about how to get it right. Thanks so much for your comment. Regards, Joe Link to comment
billmccrystyn 0 Posted December 21, 2007 I have to throw my hat in with Doug on this one. The mood is well conveyed with the B&W but the shot and eyes come to life in color. It reminds me of a shoot I did on a CA. ranch some years ago. The owner did not tell the cow hands I was going to be there and a couple of them did not take well to being photograhed. These guys hold onto this lifestyle to get away from civilization as it were, and don't like outsiders coming in bothering them. This tough character sums that mood up perfectly. Great stuff.
