Beautiful capture, Roger! I think you have found a really good balance between a frame filling snapshot, and a wider shot that wouldn't show as much detail. The lighting is excellent, and the position of the wings adds so much interest to the shot through the patterns in the feathers. Well done!

These birds are so graceful. I remember this is the first animal I learned of in grade school that was on the Endangered List. I think I was in the 3rd grade at the time, and I began to fret that the egret would become extinct. Funny how almost four decades later, how hopeful it is for me to see one.

I think you were after a bird in flight shot for a while, right? Great effort here, it all works, you got it sharp, wings and legs in a great position ... nice space in front of it in this composition too - well done!

Yea great timing, never an easy shot so I got to say well done. Now the ultimate challenge..Grab a shot like this at about 1/80s with a wonderful pan movement and motion in the wings....That is a shot I'd like to grab at least, but I think it would take a lot of practice.

Thanks, everyone. Ger,I think the only way your ultimate challenge could work is if the bird is flying more or less in your direction, that and/or more luck than one can expect in this life.

The lighting here through the wings is really excellent. Seem that I see another Egret's head shadow on its wing. Lovely flight captured.
