kellyphillips 0 Posted October 11, 2007 Scott, this is a beautiful shot with beautiful light. I've been really looking into that 100-400mm you use. I thought about your work the other day. For some reason, I remembered that you used that lens, I didn't have to look back at your folders to know that. Tell me, did you handhold for this shot? What is the slowest shutter speed you can handhold with that 40 lbs lens? I have the 24-105mm L with IS and I can handhold down to 1/8th sec, (sometimes.) You ever shoot any sports with it? I don't recall you ever posting any on here. I wonder how that lens would work for a sports shooter....Take care. Link to comment
cromwell1664877587 0 Posted October 13, 2007 Thanks, Kelly. I shot this handheld at 400mm 1/200 sec. It really just depends on how many beers I've had. Not enough, and I'm a little shaky, too many, and I'm moving the lens all around the place. To get fairly consistent handheld shots at 400mm, I don't like to go below 1/160, but have gotten several sharp pictures at 1/25. Nope, never shot any sports. I imagine it would be ok. I don't like the push-pull zoom. Everyone said I would get used to it, but I never did. I just don't have the accurate control of the zoom range that I do with a zoom ring. Most of the shots I take with it are at the full 400mm, so I suppose it doesn't even come into play that often. Link to comment
kellyphillips 0 Posted October 13, 2007 Wow, that's better than I would have thought. The push/pull zoom sounds wierd to me. I've never tried one, and I really don't understand why they put it on there. If I got that lens, most of my shots would be at 400mm as well. Thanks for the info. Link to comment
