Something about this image really caught my eye! I think it reminds me of crashing through the brush in western Montana, as a little boy, with my flyrod, while pursuing cutthroat trout in the high country. Linda, I like the composition, the exposure and the wonderful dramatic sky. Thanks for the memories! Nice work! A 6/6 anonymously. Cheers! Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your comments. I was actually following a pair of fly fishermen, my husband and son who are both fanatics. It was them who were crashing through the bush, I was straggling along behind them. I have taken some of my best shots while tagging along on their fishing trips.

I love winter scenes like this. Great contrast to the typical landscape. Would have been 6/6, but I think the stream is too centered. (The bird, too, but what can you do?)

Wonderful! I totally disagree with the previous comment: I think the stream and soaring bird (is it a crow?) are perfectly positioned. I love the birds on the branches -- even love the title. A beautiful image. Regards...

It would be a very beautiful image if there was not this mess of grasses in the foreground. If you have taken another photo with the river and the lake and a better foreground, I suggest you to paste the bird on it, it will be perfect.

Linda, That wild foreground is wonderful. Having traipsed through weeds and wilderness, your photo perfectly recreates times of quiet ambling and meditation. Great! Great! Great!

Ruud, Huy, Sheryl, Henri, Jeff, Kazimiera, Kelvin,

Thank you all so much for your comments. I appreciate it.

Henri,

This is what the "Wild" in WILDerness looks like. Although this is not true wilderness, this is in a Provincial Park, but totally uncultivated. Many of us North Americans love to hike, camp, fish, hunt in the backwoods, and get back to nature. We don't hunt in our family, but everything else. Most of Canada is untamed, natural forest. I think that in Europe you are more cultured than we are over here in the bush and used to a more cultivated landscape. Thanks for your thoughts and comments, I always appreciate them. Warm regards.

Hi Linda,

This is not what I mean. I also love wilderness and I love american landscapes in photography (I have not yet seen them in real). I just say that your foreground is too busy in terms of composition. I think there was other places here to place your camera rather that just behind those entangled branches and grasses.

Warm regards,Henri

I don't know, I think having the dried grasses and brush in the immediate foreground is what evoked the strong memories for me. That's the beauty of PN, we can all see something different to like or dislike within the same image. I just happen to like this composition a lot; somehow the unruly nature of the brush in the foreground works with the unruly nature of the sky - change is in the air - winter is coming! Cheers! Chris

Henri,

Okay, I understand now. You may be right, perhaps it is too busy. To my eye at the time it seems like a wild tapestry of branches and grass. All the best.

Chris,

Thanks again. When I shot this and later in Photo Shop it was the "unruly nature" of the branches and grass is what I liked too. All the best.

This is an awesome shot - I understand the busy-ness. I like it. There's alot to be siad for it especially in a landscape or nature shot. It's the place where everything lives - from the fish in the water to the insects in the grasses and the little birds perched in the trees to the bird patroling the skies. The deep rich colours are lovely and I love how the light just dances on the yellow grasses in the foreground. Although it might be busy, nothing is escaping my attention - all the textures are wonderful.
