gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 30, 2007 Experiment with narrow DOF using a long lens. Thanks for your time and comments. Link to comment
myphotocreation 0 Posted September 30, 2007 Good picture, but I personally like to see the grass a little more around the mushrooms. Link to comment
mcpoljak2003 0 Posted September 30, 2007 I think this is a good use of the technique. A lot of times, you see the foreground elements in too much detail which tends to be distracting. You've got good blur on both the fore and backgrounds isolating the subjects. This one has a dreamy quality about it. Those aren't by chance mushrooms of the magic kind, are they? Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 30, 2007 Kathleen, thanks for the suggestion I appreciate you taking the time. Marc, no I have yet to identify this species. I did some other similar experiments also today with Aminita muscaria, which I have heard of people eating to get high, although I gather this is not such a good idea as this species can put a person into serious convulsions. godfather 0 Posted October 1, 2007 I preffer this narrow Dof more than if the grass would be more visible. My opinion comes just by the facts that i like more odd kind of pictures than the normal mid way shooting style. This looks very good even when it is taken just from a few mushrooms, and just because your Dof treatment. Just my opinion. Best rgs Tero. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted October 1, 2007 Thanks and I agree, the point of these images was to try and use dof to isolate the mushrooms from their surroundings. I wanted the grass to be implied but note clearly stated. Link to comment
Matthew Brennan 3 Posted October 2, 2007 and it works here - I like the sharper out of focus elements simply in relation to the shape of the caps on these specimens, roudded caps might not look so good with this more jagged fore/back ground? Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted October 4, 2007 I do see what you are saying and it makes perfect sense. Although I did not think about why I chose this one out of the several bracketed f. stops I tried, I now see why it works better than the more wide open ones, it's all in the angles.
