leo burkey 0 Posted September 29, 2007 Bryce Canyon is truly a beautiful place to see. The rock's colors change depending the time of day and the brightness of the sun. The colors range from a pale yellow to the brightness of reds. This was an mainly an overcast day with some scattered sun and color of the rocks was mainly pale to bright yellow. I used a yellow filter to get some separation in the sky but also to raise the value of the yellow rock faces. The sun was partially out when I took the exposure and gave me my highest values in the snow. In the processing of this image I wanted as many tonal values as I could get. I accomplished by running a Levels adjustment layer and bringing the sliders to just where the data started. This assured me that my brightest whites and my darkest black s would all be represented to there fullest. Separate curves adjustment layers were used in all areas that needed some tweaking. A final overall curves adjustment layer allowed me to blend everything together. I used the Ektalure Cream tone to bring some of the feel of the yellow rocks back into the black and white print. ljcarr 0 Posted September 30, 2007 I always wanted to see Bryce during the winter, sadly I've moved back to Michigan and likely wont see it for a long time. I love the beauty of all the colors Bryce and the surrounding area has to offer. I was surprised when I seen this in B/W, we must have been standing in the exact same spot. I have attached my version, in color. Thanks for sharing this great image. -Larry Link to comment

leo burkey 0 Posted September 30, 2007 That's just too funny! I think we used the same tripod holes. It's nice to see the B&W and color together. I believe I also took a color photograph ; I will look for it and post it. Thanks for sharing! Link to comment
rbanfield 0 Posted October 11, 2007 Leo, So this is another of your photographs that makes me want to get there. I have been to both Bryce and Zion but long before I started shooting. Good thing is they are only a couple of hours from my house. This might be a perfect location to start using my CS3. Keep sharing these wonderful photos with us Leo and post production techniques...RAY Link to comment
