leo burkey 0 Posted September 27, 2007 There was a potion of this image that contained a contour in the main sand dunes that was very distracting and was the reason that all my darkroom prints failed to please me. Enter Photoshop and the distraction has been cloned away. To give the sand more mid tone contrast I used the High Pass Contrast layer that I spoke of in the lake Huron image. I darkened the sky to set the upper dunes apart from it. t I wanted the dune in the shadows as dark as possible and yet show the details of the sand waves. This was accomplished by a curves adjustment layer tweaked to the above specification. I toned this with selenium and Ektalure Cream tones. Comments are always welcome. If you would like to see the original just ask. Link to comment
kirk d 0 Posted September 27, 2007 This image is visually stimulating with the different shapes, lines and patterns created by the light and shadows and enhanced by you. Its good to see someone taking time and pride in their digital darkroom treatment of their image which to me is an extension of the camera. Most great photographers of late made their really good pictures great in the printing process which was very expensive and only available to limited photographers. Today the digital post-processing takes a parallel role to the dark room and is available to many more photographers. Kirk Link to comment

gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 27, 2007 Tremendous image Leo. The shadows are so dramatic and the shadow detail is spot on. The line of triangular s patches of light running up the spine of the dune leave me the the feeling I am looking at some colossal life form. Link to comment
llgarcia 1 Posted September 27, 2007 It is not common that shadows of sand are captured the way you did it (foreground). Excellent photo with great tones and composition. I am starting on 4x5 (Shen Hao, schneider lenses) and would like to know your exposure details in the original photo. Did you use front tilt here? Thanks-LESTER Link to comment

leo burkey 0 Posted September 28, 2007 I don't remember the exact exposure but I believe that it was 1/4 f22 and I used a middle yellow filter to darken the shadow areas. The only swing of the camera that I used was to lower the front. I have attached the original scan for your viewing. Link to comment
