aepelbacher 0 Posted September 27, 2007 Another color vs. B&W comparison that I'd love your input for. If you didn't see the other pair of shots, check this folder ... they're still here. This was NOT taken on the safari. This shot is from the Rothschild Giraffe Center, right in Nairobi. It's a center for education about giraffes ... and I believe that they do some breeding there as well. Anyway - you can feed the giraffes and interact with them here. It's where I took the two pics of those beautiful little girls (same folder).I definitely had the opportunity at the Giraffe center to get closer to the giraffes than I did when I was on the safari. This was taken with my 50mm, up real close. I'm going to upload it both in color and in B&W. I'm trying to guage which is more appealing. I've got several animal shots that I'm going to do the same with ... upload both a color and B&W, looking for you to compare and contrast the two....Does the washed out sky bother you? Thanks so much for everyone's regular input on my photos. Your help means a lot! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 27, 2007 Please see the B&W version in this same folder. Any comments or ratings are appreciated! :-) Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted September 27, 2007 I would crop this at the bottom and get rid of that bit of tree, then it would be much more abstract. Aren't giraffes the coolest animals?? I like the different patterns and DOF in this composition. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 27, 2007 Thanks for your visit, Kim - I hope that the move/house sale are going well. I have to tell you that I played with the crop and the trees in the bottom over and over again. I can't tell you how many different ways I looked at it, and just couldn't get it to a place where I thought it looked balanced. I'll need to play with it some more. Regards! Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted September 28, 2007 The color version is best. Yes on the crop that Kim has suggested. Nothing would be lost by making the crop and the abstractness of the image would be complete! Link to comment
davidroossien 0 Posted September 28, 2007 Good suggestions to crop, I think. Then the bottom left white balances the top right white, and we get 3 similar objects. I like the way the hair shoots off into the upper right corner. Fun photo! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 28, 2007 Thanks, all, for the input on this. You're right - the crop does improve it! I don't know why I was so committed to seeing that little bit of the upper leg of the foremost giraffe. Hmmm... Anyway - the crop looks great. Thanks again! More giraffe shots to come! :-) Link to comment
sarahunderhill 1 Posted September 30, 2007 Nice, all the necks! :) all the different spots. I like the color... Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 30, 2007 Lou Ann, that is a very nice composition, that David's crop enhanced. but the color and abstract feeling is great. very nice! Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted October 3, 2007 i LOVE this!!! definitely appeals to the graphic designer in me! the crop does help. Link to comment
sondra kick 0 Posted October 9, 2007 Lou Ann, I love all the different patterns and cropping was a good idea. The washed out sky doesn't bother me as I am too interested in the necks. Do you still reside in the DC area or have you moved to the wild west? We love our home in Florida, but I do miss the autumn leaves. Sondra Link to comment
