I shot some with fill flash and some without...for some reason it

seems that the no fill worked better. Some how they came out less

harsh and more soft in mood. Any comment or critique is welcome.

The mood and lighting is very nice. I don't like the background. And I'm not sure what that is growing out of her torso below her breast? I would crop tighter, I don't think much of the scene really adds to the picture.

I agree that fill-in flash would not have improved this picture. You have achieved lovely soft tones. Pity about the right hand, which spoils the line of her rim-lit torso. And the ironwork on the left is problematic. I can see why you included it - the curved rail sort of echoes the curve of the body. But I do not think it works. Better without. Tighter crop to lose some of the dead space of the right. But enough criticism - I would not bother if I didn't like the picture. John PS Have you tried HDR? It is much softer than fill-in flash. no fill needed indeed... atmosphere is good. right hand and background were already mentioned. PS might do the trick here...

Like the tonality!

....for your comments! I posted this unmanipulated so I could get feedback on how to finish it. You have given me some great advice. I will be removing her right hand and the floating channel marker to improve her line but I think I will go to a 1x2 ratio crop. That will bring in all of the iron work at her feet and loose some of the bottom darkness that doesn't add much to the image. Does anyone think I should warm up the sunset behind her? I could add some magenta, yello and red to it fairly easily.

The background is far too distracting, especially the water tower. I think fill flash would only help if you used a diffuser. Better to use a reflector, then the warm light of the sunset would be reflected onto the subject.

I'll have to see your shots with fill flash. I like available light shots and this one is stunning. The small nit-picks mentioned earlier are far overshadowed by how you used the light to shape her. Again great shot!
