This may be the antithesis of my usual photo, gritty, yes, but also

indistinct and without a clear 'message' with the center of attention

being that cell (mobile) phone which by its sharpness and white color

is in great contrast to the rest of the scene. A photo reminiscent

for me, of the 'noir' (black or dark) look of the cinemas of the '40s

and early '50s; one can wonder just what this man is up to; where is

he going, just who is he and to whom is he talking and about what?

Your ratings and critiques are invited and most welcome. If you rate

harshly or very critically, please submit a helpful and constructive

comment; please share your superior photographic knowledge to help

improve my photography. Thanks! Enjoy! John

This is quite a departure for postings from me; it doesn't signal a departure in my style, but an extension of it.

I just take the photos, but I use discretion in what to post. I decided that if a photo is 'good' (as I think this one is), then it should be posted.

This is a quirky photo -- some will like it; others will hate it.

I like it, though it is hard to compare with my other work -- it's of a different style and/or genre.

I can imagine some of my usual raters having some trouble with it.

And I wouldn't unpost it for anything.

Best regards.

This photo has 12 ratings now (two are from new members, so not yet counted) and it shows 2 3/3s.

I'm laughing to myself, since to a newbie, this may appear as an absolutely horrible photo.

Yet in my view, it's extremely good; just outside the mainstream of most Photo.net photos.

The rating system generally, though, does work.

Imagine this lowly photo got 12 ratings and one of my best 'normal' photos with a 6/6 rate got just four raters. There must be something about this photo that attracts raters.

I'd post it again in a second.

Thanks for the vote of confidence; your rates for such photos mean quite a bit more than just the average rate in part because you're an experimenter, in part because you are a prolific people shooter, and in part because you seldom rate my photos, and only the 'interesting' ones (and always appropriately to my feelings about a particular photo).

Thanks, I needed that.

The  disappearing human  figure as a silhouette in a black-hole, with a cellphone, connected  but  hardly alive. The  movement, the  unsharp blurry image,  ad  more to the mystical moody image. Excellent.  It  is  definitely not  for beginners,  artistically uneducated, untalented.

Cheers;  Bela

How strange to find your comment tonight under this photo; I had been regarding it separately, wondered why it was not so popular, and considered moving it somewhere, but decided I like it and so it shall stay with my 'most popular' black and white work.

The wording of your comment, which really by stating who should NOT see or would NOT appreciate this photo, actually says the opposite to me - who should see this photo, and those are just the people I had in mind.

Your analysis is wonderful; I won't spoil it by trying to re-word it or explain it.  It stands by itself and makes wonderful reading; I hereby incorporate it into my 'official' explanation of this photo (with your permission of course).

With greatest thanks.

;~))
