aepelbacher 0 Posted September 24, 2007 This guy was interesting. First of all, many Maasai still dress this way, walking through their daily activities. We even saw Maasai dressed like this walking to work in Nairobi. This particular warrior was employed by the Safari camp that we went to. He was a sort of "host". He gave us all sorts of stories about his "conquests", but we finally learned that he is 25, unmarried, and had attended college in Nairobi to become a naturalist. The reason that he was "chosen" to attend college was because, as a younger boy, he was not very good at "keeping the cattle" ... every time he came home, there seemed to be fewer cattle than there had been before he left. He took us on a hike one afternoon and showed us his brilliant knowledge of trees, bushes, and other plants, as well as the ways of the Maasai people. We also had very, very interesting discussions with him about his opinions of Western ways of life. Link to comment
