aepelbacher 0 Posted September 24, 2007 Our camp was at the top of the "escarpment" that overlooks the Mara River plain, where the Maasai reserve is located. These little villages are scattered all over the plain, and using my 300mm, I could "spy" on the Maasai villagers as they went about their day to day life. I especially like the three or four people sitting under the tree near the top right. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 24, 2007 Is this a landscape? Any comments or ratings are appreciated! :-) Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted September 24, 2007 Landscape, travel, documentary or architecture, you have many possibilities with this image. It appears to be a nice village but probably a hard way of life. Do you have any information on the gathering site under the tree in front of the village? It might be that "SHADE" is the answer to this question. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 24, 2007 Actually, it was winter there (July, south of the equator), and the locals thought it was quite cold (only in the upper 60's). LOL! Actually, my thinking (a completely uninformed opinion) was that these were the men, or at least the elders, sitting under the tree ... um, making decisions ... while the others were working hard around the village. How does that sound? Link to comment
murphymj4803 0 Posted September 24, 2007 I like this shot and the way you have cropped it. Listing it in the categories of "Landscape", "Travel", or "Architecture" make sense to me. In either case, good luck in your new adventure out west in CO. As a retired school teacher myself, I salute you, well done. Finally, after thinking about this photo for the past few days I knew there was something about it that was not up to snuff. I now know what that was, namely the drop shadow is a nice touch albeit it's a tad too dark given the foreground of the photo being so dark. I'd lighten the drop shadow a smidge. Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted September 25, 2007 Please believe me that I do understand these matters... I am man, I am elder, and making decisions (especially while others work) is a very important part of the day. I'm glad we cleared that up! Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted September 25, 2007 Nice shot which shows well the arrangement of the village and the architecture of the houses. Link to comment

rkynast 1 Posted September 26, 2007 A well-composed slice of villiage life, Lou Ann. The right side is darker than the rest of the photo; I assume that was intentional or perhaps a passing cloud. Thanks for posting. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted September 26, 2007 Magical lighting, a great perspective, really giving a feeling for the village and a timeless quality. Extremely well done. Link to comment
