shots worth sharing 1 Posted September 22, 2007 Close--it's a derelict structure in Clifton Park in Baltimore. Well, o.k., not very close at all. ;>) Link to comment
alberta_pizzolato 21 Posted September 29, 2007 I'm not sure why I like this photo so much. But I do. There's really a lot to look at and think about - different materials, many of them in odd shapes (love the bend and rusting/verdigris on parts of the grate); light/dark contrast with hints of pinks; square, square, square and then cathedral-like window openings behind. It's deep, Dave. Good job! Link to comment
shots worth sharing 1 Posted September 29, 2007 I'm so glad you responded to this. I did too and, like you, I'm not sure why. The title was initially inspired by the string (as in tying a string around a finger--or a yellow ribbon) but resonated from there: someone must remember why the string was tied, how this interesting structure was used and why it was abandoned. On another level, taken on Yom Kippur, it also raises swirling associations relating to my secular Jewish background. Photography is fascinating: was any of this in my head when I took the shot? I don't think so but... Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted May 10, 2008 Oh Dear! I forgot what I was supposed to remember. Now where is the rock I left the note under... Go ask Alice, I think she'll know. I like it Dave! Link to comment
shots worth sharing 1 Posted May 10, 2008 Thanks, Shawn! This is from the same pumping station. One thing I'll remember about this shot is that when you're shooting a grid (screen or grate) you have to shoot it absolutely straight-on or at a decided angle--"almost square" is problematic.
