I think the burning is so much so is necessary, maybe just a litle unsharp in a new leyer and after that erase sharp from background and it is going perfect. But very little unsharpen :)

Fine portrait. In this image, the use of the burning tool creates an almost magical effect. I like it here.

Wonderful portrait...but would have preferred it sharper...

Excellent use of B&W with the lighted area behind the man but yet very good illumination of him. Contrast balance is good and your excellent use of DOF helps to make this another one of your great portraits. While I often think that B&W is an excellent medium for portraits it is often difficult to get the contract just right for the subject but you have done this very well. Thank you for sharing with us.
