gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 21, 2007 Three elements make this image for me. 1. the ragged and past prime nature of the lotus blossom. 2. The echo of the lotus flower shape in the ribs of the lotus pad along with the rim of the second pad to the left. 3. The long narrow crop. 4. OK so I can't count! That one silver bead of water sitting in the center of the pad. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 23, 2007 Ditto to what Gordon said :) Saves me some typing... hehehe. This is stunning! Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 23, 2007 I have noted on several occasions comments similar to Angela's following my posts. When all this typing wears out my keyboard I am expecting all these people to chip in and buy me a new one. :-) Link to comment
iancoxleigh 0 Posted September 26, 2007 Gordon, Angela, thank you both! Gordon, too funny! We could start the 'ditto' commentator's endowment fund for lengthy critique? On a slightly more serious note: maybe frequent (and lengthy) commentators should get a Photo.net discount? It'd encourage more thoughtful critique. For every 2000 words typed you'd get $1 off your yearly membership. Perhaps I'm just sick of reading complaint posts about 'un-explained' (usually low) rates! Lastly, Gordon, I'm in the middle of finishing a major research project and have been putting off writing to you. I wanted to write: a. an email and b. a long, balanced message in reply to identifying some forums that have more thorough critiquing than here. In fact, I forget at the moment where a large number of them were (those that I'm not directly interested in -- I might have some bookmarked). But, the one I read most often is Luminous Landscape's forums. If you have fairly interesting landscape work, you can get some good responses out of people there -- it is somewhat hit or miss (some images draw no response or very little). But, if a good debate gets rolling it can provoke some really insightful critiques. I'll endeavour to write you an email and a more thorough one at that sometime soon. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 26, 2007 Likewise you put forth some amusing yet pointed suggestions. I really don't mind at all, I just find this " ditto " practice a bit curious.I seldom read other peoples critiques until I have taken some time to reflect on the image I am about to critique and formulate some thoughts on my own. I am not certain if this amounts to a strength or a weakness or an arrogant indifferece. I am in no rush for your mail so please take your time and post in your leisure. I have browsed the luminous landscape often, mainly for information or product reviews, I'll have to take a look a the forums. Link to comment
iancoxleigh 0 Posted September 26, 2007 Oh, one last thing, my apologies to Angela! You have left quite helpful and thorough critiques elsewhere. My comment to Gordon comes out of this forum posting: http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00MdbF. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 27, 2007 I certainly meant no disrespect towards Angela. I assumed that her original comment was made in jest as was my retort. Causing offense or legitimately complaining was the farthest thing from my mind. Link to comment
