aepelbacher 0 Posted September 17, 2007 This is obviously not Africa. :-) I just wanted to point out that I AM in Colorado (as of last week), and spent a few days hiking in the mountains already! :-) I can't remember the exact name of this mountain ... I'll look it up and put it in the caption when I get it. It's about 20 minutes south of Crested Butte. I'll probably upload a mix of Africa and my trip from DC to Colorado over the next few weeks. It was a partly sunny day with those ugly black threatening clouds. It did end up raining later. I thought that the sky worked well for this shot ... a little blue, a little bit of a dramatic cloud showing through. Two things I'm not sure about. First of all, I wish that the road curved to the left instead of the right. Bummer. Second, I toyed with cropping off a bit of the bottom and a bit of the right side, as they are so much darker than the rest. But I felt that the crop threw off the compositional balance. What do you think? Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted September 17, 2007 Very well done... as is. A very natural and welcoming scene. Makes me want to see what's around the corner! Link to comment
gabi_raoul 0 Posted September 17, 2007 Excellent exposure, light, details, tones and composition! Best regards, Gabi Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted September 17, 2007 Hi, Lou Ann, nice to see something from Colorado. Looks like a touch of fall is in the air. You're right, it is a tad dark on the right and bottom, but its really okay. You have some pretty dynamic lighting conditions with the partial sun and cloudy sky. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I assume you're gonna be in 'hog heaven' with the aspens this fall, as you are in the aspen capital of the world. So, have fun and take a zillion shots, you'll get some of 'em right. Have you found a place to live and a job yet? I am off to Santa Fe for a week tomorrow a.m. Maybe I can find some aspens turning up in the Sangre de Cristos. Take care and stay in touch. Cheers! henrimanguy 0 Posted September 20, 2007 Nice composition, nice colours and light. Very pleasant image. The place puts one in the mood for a walk (expression directly copied from my english/french dictionnary). Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 20, 2007 Your dictionary is exactly correct in the usage of that imagery. :-) And walking a lot there was what I did for five days! :-) Thanks for your comments, all. Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted September 21, 2007 I agree with Henri that this puts me in a mood for a walk. Perhaps lighten up shadow area at bottom right corner a little? This has a nice, pleasing composition with nice color. ^_^ Link to comment
whinterberger 0 Posted September 23, 2007 Lovely shot , Lou Ann , very inviting , as has been said. I shouldn't worry about the dark areas , to my mind they give the image additional depth and I like that. I envy you , what with the tooth of time gnawing on me :-( , my hiking days are slowly coming to an end , so enjoy while you may ! Link to comment
susan stone 0 Posted September 24, 2007 So glad to hear you've finally arrived in Colorado. And what a great shot as an introduction to what will be many wonderful images from your new Home State....and a great one it is.....the photo and the state! Wonderful DOF and colors in this one Lou Ann, makes me want to put on my hiking shoes and go for a stroll. And Fall colors starting to peek through too. I like the road on the right of my screen, it still leads me into the image. I was through Colorado Springs a couple weeks ago on my way to NM and Utah, still looking for somewhere to retire in a couple years. I loved Garden of the Gods park, first time there. Link to comment
