whydangle 0 Posted September 14, 2007 I gave up on this one in color, so I threw it into channel mixer. Thanks for observing!! Link to comment
oneteacup 0 Posted September 14, 2007 I don't know about color, but in B&W it surely looks great. Congratulations. Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted September 15, 2007 Interesting, Mark, I really liked the earlier color versions of this. What strikes me is that the sky and the overall landscape here work very well as a B&W, but somehow the hulk of the car seems to get lost. Can't complain about it too much, it is a hell of a composition and exposure. A 6/6 anonymously. Cheers! Chris Link to comment
patrick_d_smith 0 Posted September 15, 2007 Hmm.. I thought I critiqued this one already. Anyway, the tones look good for B&W here. It is amazing how the car blends into the environment. It shows how everything would eventually be taken over by nature if given enough time and neglect. Patrick Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted September 15, 2007 Thanks everyone for observations. An earlier version I posted was a vertical. I have a color version of this one that actually looks pretty solid but I am looking for some diversity. As far as the car getting lost, I see that some of the tones are equal to the grasses, but I am trying to portray the car as perhaps more like the soul of a car or an apparition if you will, almost transparent. As the title says, Discarded or This Car Dead. Link to comment
godfather 0 Posted September 15, 2007 IMO this b/w vversion is better. Looks oldish and it is hard to say how old this picture is. Makes some story for behind it. In colors it is easy to define some sort of age for the photo. Great composition by the way. I cant believe that you have founded something this beautiful landscape and a car rusting in there, not in my country, here they rust in old barns and in the middle of woods... it a shame. Best regards Tero. Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted September 15, 2007 Mark, given your explantion, I now 'get' this image. I think it quite remarkable how the car does, in fact, seem to fade into obscurity within the landscape. Really superb tonal range. Very, very nice work, my friend! Cheers! Chris Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 16, 2007 Hi Mark I like your shot. The feel of the old car ist still lost a bit for me. Have you tried making a lith print out of it to get it really "old"? I also trie a second version just darkeing the shadows. Gives it mor punch for me. Overall, very good shot Link to comment

jjc 0 Posted September 17, 2007 Upon closer observation, are those bullet holes all over the car? It gives the whole image a very creepy feel if that is the case. What color was the car? Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted September 17, 2007 Hey Julius. Those are indeed bullet holes. My portfolio has a couple more images of the car in color. I believe the bullet holes are a result of hunters, rednecks or kids using the car as target practice, but one could imagine a different scenario. Thanks for the different looks Dirk. I like your alterations. This subject lends itself to so many artistic directions. I especially like your B&W adjustment. I am not crazy about sepia or liths since I used to work in a lab that specialized in sepia years ago. I have had my fill thanks. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 17, 2007 I think I like version 2 with the darkened shadows best, but this is no slouch either... Very good composition and excellent aesthetics. Best regards, Frank Link to comment
