YOU'RE SO VEIN

Over-processed like crazy, because it lacked interest otherwise

Looked like the veins were grafted.

I have seen thousands of human veins but

I have not encountered one such this.

Thanks for sharing.

You are right. This is not my usual image. I was just kind of playing around with the photo of this unusual person I spotted in the crowd. It's not much of a photo, but I found him and his veins quite interesting.

He tried to relax, but it all was in vein. A character. Sometimes the truth comes out in unexpected ways.

Wonderful character study. Who is he, where has he been and where is he going? Did it hurt more to get the tatoo? Great capture.

I think your objective stance is part of the great success of your documentary photos, your keen eye being key as well. Consciously staying out of the picture to allow the juxtapositions and ironies to speak for themselves is, in fact, your effective personal stamp. Here, I'd think about some kind of connection/connectedness. You have found noticeable visual cues in this and in Espied in the Woods, but is there more about the people that could be explored?

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are taking me to task for the style of shooting, which is more of a voyeuristic approach than one of interacting and engaging the subject. If that is so, I would not for a moment disagree. I have stated many times in comments that I do not feel comfortable in front of the camera. Sometimes not even behind it. That discomfort tends to get projected. Because of that I have a tendency to take furtive and candid images without the subject ever knowing what I am doing. It can be a cowardly approach, and I'll be the first to admit it. I think it also hinders my ability to get those really good portraits that you and others on Pnet do. I do agree that I must work on that if I am to get to the next level in photographing humans.

In dealing with non human subjects, I think it works well for me as I think you mentioned. As always, thanks for your sagacious commentary. You remain one of the brightly shining lights on the Pnet streets.

I'm a voyeur as well. Big time. It's at play in my recent Ken and Mark. Two challenges I think about are how to engage as a voyeur and how to stay clandestine and still capture a connection.

Hey Boss... I know how uneasy your are with taking candid people shots. This one its top notch. A great capture and ture to your form in capturing the mundane, the obvious, and somwhat out cast. what others walk by and not even take a secound look at, you have the foresight to capture. I Love this type of stuff. Would love to see more.

PS.. I laughed hard at the "Its not a bird, its not a Bug, its not a nude... Im screwed" comment on the Blue vs green photo.

But even it was a bird, bug or nude... I think you would but the BOSS twist on it and make it your own vision... so you would still be screwed. So just keep shooting your stuff... and damn the tomatos... Full steam a head of lettuce.

You always boost my spirits. Someday I'd like to have a beer with you. So you really think if I did a frigging bird, I'd still be screwed, because it would look like MY bird and not everyone else's? Man, that's a tough blow to absorb. I hope that thought doesn't keep me up tonight. If it does, you are going to catch hell from me tomorrow. On the other hand, what a challenge you've given me. I'm going to go look for a sparrow first thing in the morning.....

Thanks dude. You lighten up my photography.

Ment only as a compliment my dear Boss, in that your bird would certainly stand out from eveyone else. It would be a "David Meyer" bird.

Only compliments are gingerly thrown you way when I comment on your work... back handed as they may be.. but still compliments.

As for the Beer... YOU'RE ON. I like a good english ale.. my favorite is

a little know beer called "Seriously Bad Elf ". I love that beer. But it HATES me.

See you at the "Cool Fish" Bar in Beaufort North Carolina.
