You're almost all black to the right of your subject, why not just go completely black? There's a lighter spot (ear lobe?) that pulls my eye off the face.

I fixed it. I had no idea that I had that little spark there on the ear. You were absolutely right. It is done.

I had not had it rated yet. Not sure if I am going to. I don't fix things that are rated but since I haven't and that REALLY REALLY bugged me too (I did this late last night post proccessing) I thought I better fix it.

Thanks for the critique AND the help, I am always wanted good honest help ;)~ micki

I think this is an extraordinary portrait - beautiful light. But there is a line of light right along the right side of his face that seems not quite right - too obvious. Don't know what it is or how to fix it, it just seems to take away from an otherwise incredible portrait.

I still needed to go darker on the contrast there by the ear. It was part of his neck and it still needed to have less contrast there. Since I still haven't had it rated I fixed it. I am still waiting to get it rated. All I'm doing is just waiting on the time.

For those that did not see the early version All I did was take a bit of the lighter spot on the earlobe and right under it where it was distracting. It was just a bit too much highlights there. I just made it less. :)

The light I'm referring to runs completely down the right side of his face - maybe a highlight but it almost looks like digital artifacts or something. A white line that starts right at the corner of his right eye and runs all the way down the right side of the face. Pretty sure it's a highlight but it's too "defined" - maybe if it was smudged a bit????

I fixed it again.

Thank you both for being helpful with this picture.

I have worked this thing for two days. Putting it up in another way and then bring it down and totally redoing it and now putting it back up.

I will now see what everyone things. Hmmmmm

It's very evocative, Micki. I had seen it before the fixes and was going to mention them so I'm glad you already got good advice. Feels like the pose and look (AND HAT) of an old master's painting. He's a very expressive kid. I hope you won't wear him out too soon!

As for the pointing one that you emailed me, I'd love to see you work with that some more. The only thing contrived I found about it was the lack of background, I didn't like the way the finger was just floating. Would love to see you work more with that same idea.

Ok, It took me a total of like 10 hours and lots of re-working a simple photo several times and honestly "CRYING" to get this photo where I actually liked it. The two ways. One the MIME (which I took down and I'm sure some of you saw it as it is a mothers treasure). And then this picture what I really like about it. The lips and the eye. THEN the PEACH behind him. A picture my grandmother painted which is VERY VERY special. So, for me this picture gave me the chance to try some new techniques. Some that I haven't used except to paint in chalk but not use really on a face.

Thank you to everyone for all your help in making this into it's final presentation. I am thrilled that I got some honest and helpful critiques.

Special thanks to Tom, Anthony, Fred and Jan for keeping me honest on this picture. Mom ;) ~ hugs!! :) ~ micki
