The detail is great, nice DOF, not my favorite angle for this guy and the sky is really blown and distracting. Kind of funny that you can see up his nose :)

His eyes do seem tired with that dark shadowing, the lines around his mouth and tight lips give him a careworn look, good job capturing that. I think both you and he have a better portrait than this lurking though. You might want to try and increase the tonal range and get some darker shadows in there to see how that effects the mood. I followed the same advice with one of my portraits and that improved what I was going for 100X. Anyway, take it or leave it :)
