I think the photo is beautiful. You have managed to keep her face the focus of the picture. One slight improvment might be to have her pull her arm around a little more on the right. Right now her arm looks kinda of thick and she appears to be a thin girl. Lighting is very cool, the seniors love this stuff. Take Care, Laura Larson

Good idea Laura :) She is thin & her arm does look a little thick.

 

Senior pictures??? Oh no.... I only did that once for a little girl I had know for several years. While she made it a pleasant experience, I have great respect for those that take Senior pictures. They must have the patience of Jobe :) Something I really no longer possess :) Only with my grandchildren :)

Nicely rendered. My only suggestion would be to burn her left arm. It seems a little bright relative to the other skin tones.

Good suggestion. I think before I print this I will burn it a little. Of course, then I'd be accused of "post processing" my images :) Heaven forbid I do that :) Just kidding..... someone thinks I post process all my images & thus am not a real photographer. I wish Ansel Adams were alive, I'd tell him this :) Not! Thanks for commenting Ken.

Love the subtlety (I hope I spelled this right but if I didn't it is surely a typo and I am totally not responsible nor ignorant) of this beautifully lit photograph. I love how the guitar seems to have an inner glow. I do agree about the arm being a little bright but that is kind of nit picking as I think the overall impression of this photograph is moving and lovely.

Thanks for commenting. I have not printed this one out yet, I think her mother (a friend & also a photographer) wants to play with this one a bit before we print it.

 

For some reason, I had the hardest time setting up these lights. I only used 2, main & fill, no back lights. I think I needed to move the fill a little more behind me. I'm just not really good with low lighting yet. But I'm working on it.

 

I took a lighting class & the instructor stated she thought hi-key white was the hardest to get correct. For some reason, that one was easy for me. The low lit ones are the one I find frustrating. I also think this one would have benefited from a rim light. The good thing is Erica is readily available to photograph ( she enjoys it). So I will try. try again :)

 

Subtlety = correct :) I checked it with the spell checker (LOL) My PhD brother-in-law says that the inability to spell correctly is a "sign" of intelligence :)I must be really smart :)

Nicely done Jayme. The diffusion glow really makes it pop. I like her expression. Maybe burn her left arm in just a wee bit?

Thanks, the diffusion glow was from the extremely large soft-box. This image is straight out of the camera. I did purposely use my Tamron 28-300 (not the sharpest lens I own, but the most versatile). So, I think I got a little "soft glow" thing going on 2ndary to the lens & the soft-box. Totally right out of the camera, no post processing on this one. The B&W one I did add an additional diffusion blur, just for fun :)

 

I agree, I will most likely burn the arm a little, but she is really fair, no tan on this kid (very smart kid).
