Footprints

Thanks for your kind comments, Julio! Like yours, I took this about 8 years ago (you can see some more recent photos of the subject, Clara, in my portfolio). It was scanned from negative but I have to confess that the original is just as grainy.

 

Perhaps more than any other, this image convinced me that I should try to go beyond taking snapshots and start taking photographs and I think it will always be my favorite. The key to the image, I think, is the shadow beneath her left foot which ties the footprints behind her to the smooth sand ahead--that and her obvious intention to "make her mark."

 

Not good technically but ...

Much appreciated, Diana! Finding this in my snapshots from the beach was really an OMG moment. Of course, I now wish I had been shooting with my current kit but , no matter what I do in the future, this will always be one of my finest.

 

On second thought, it occurs to me that, if had shot this with my k100d and the Tamron 18-250, I might well have zoomed in too far and lost the open space that's so essential to this image.
