This fellow has a great face. He would pop more if the sky were somewhat darker. This would make his white hair standout better.

I have a Rolleiflex and I love it...You used this incredible camera in a perfect way.

Very nice portrait, Robert! I think shallow depth-of-field was a good choice...!

Robert, you did an amazing job of capturing his expression (the not-quite-a-smile that we used to refer to as his 'drunk' smile when we were kids). This reference says more of our childish perception of him than it does of the real man, as kids tend to see things in black + white terms. As an ex-RCAF career officer fighter pilot he needed to be seen as stern & business-like but this demeanour would evaporate somewhat after he had a drink. If I am honest this IS what he really looks like right now at 85 but my mind still insists he looks younger than this, as our minds are wont to do. Thanks for taking this photo and for sharing it, Robert. It shows his strength, still, rather than any evidence of the Parkinson's that has betrayed his body .

I am the prodigal son of this man. The life I have lived could fill volumes, yet, it's only a fraction of the life this man has lived. You have captured the magic of his life.

 

To all of you reading this; This man was a WWII Bomber pilot and Cold War Jet Jockey. A renouned Canadian Fighter Pilot and father of eight children. In retirement he was one of Colorado's oldest ski instructors working out of Vail.
