jcpopper 0 Posted August 27, 2007 Like this one. Tones and composition -- fine stuff. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 27, 2007 Thank you sir. Now see, I'm not gonna whine or cajole on this one. Whatever it is, it is. Link to comment
laurent_jaussi 0 Posted August 27, 2007 A superb find David...I like the composition and colors....with smooth light you get details everywhere in the scene... Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 27, 2007 Thanks. Back to the more traditional image for awhile. Link to comment
alight 0 Posted August 27, 2007 without the shed in the background this would be another old truck photo. However, this way the monochrome building makes it more interesting. It's also great that besides giving the truck a meaningful background, it allows the truck to stand out. The tall grass only underlines the age and abandonment of both. This photo would be a prime contender for an ultra-ultra wide shot, like with a 14mm lens (OK, 10mm for the DX sensor) and getting as close to the truck as possible from perhaps a sharper angle than this. Anway, a nice image. Cheers, Micheal Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 27, 2007 Yeah, you are right about that wide angle. I'd love to have one. Get in about a foot away from that rust bucket, down low, and blast away! Yeah, that would be cool. Alas, a new lens is not in the budget either. Cheers. Link to comment
susan stone 0 Posted August 28, 2007 Welcome to the "shoot a truck a week club", you fit right in. The colors here are "just right" in my book, it doesn't have that over processed look. I like the background too, the old weathered building and truck look like "pardner's" to me. Those old beauties were built to last. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 28, 2007 Yeah, jeez there's no way and can keep the truck a day post schedule you and Mr. Shawhan have. I'm not even trying. No more old trucks or cars in the near future. Just junky old buildings, with poor colors and over-processed unidentifiable detritus. That's my specialty. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted August 28, 2007 These aging vehicles hit a certain age where it feels as if you're taking a portrait of an aging personality rather than a picture of an object. The history is written in the rust and chipped paint. These types of pictures are as compelling to me as portraiture. Great surroundings as well. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 28, 2007 I love them because at my age, they are like old friends. This type of image is not my primary goal in doing photography, but they are the occasional coffee break from the sweaty exhausting work of mining for meaningful images. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted August 28, 2007 Maybe not your favorite kind of image or "goal" but I still see your stamp on it, especially in the blades of grass up front. That's what makes it for me and it's because of a good perspective. It puts the thing right into its place. Adds that special bit of depth and focus. The shed, as Michael mentioned, works as a good backdrop. Even letting us see a little beyond the shed is a good idea. Space. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 28, 2007 Thanks. I really hope you are right about a style. For a long time it was really important to me to have a recognizable style. Not just an eccentric trick that is attached to every effort for the only purpose of tagging it as yours, but a visionary type of viewpoint. It seems to me that when people think they see your style in an image, even if they are wrong, that is a supreme compliment. I don't know if it is vanity or not, but that has been an important goal of mine ever since I got into this art business. Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted August 31, 2007 Tall grass, old truck, old barn... I feel right at home with this image and I think you did a great job of showing it at its best. I'm also guessing that you have at least 8 other images of this truck from other views. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 31, 2007 Had to post this just so you and Susan wouldn't think you had an exclusive on this old rolling stock. And, yes, I did take a fair number, but this was by far the best of them. Link to comment
kentb2 0 Posted September 1, 2007 A page right out of my imaginations' perfect American Dream. I love how you bring the west home. Nice job on the layering of differing planes bringing us from grass, to truck and barn. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 1, 2007 Thanks for looking. Do you think it really true that these were simpler times, or is it just our imaginations playing tricks on us? Link to comment
kentb2 0 Posted September 2, 2007 David, I am only romanticizing that notion. I'm all too aware of how much harder life was back then. At least in the physical sense. I do wonder if the emotional state were not more fully satisfied. There may have been more meaning and therefore satisfaction in the day to day work to be done.??????? Link to comment
aramat57 3 Posted February 19, 2008 Love this image. The faded paint. The rust. The weeds. The weathered barn. Love it all. No critique here, just love it and that's all. Best regards, Tammy Link to comment
