Interesting capture, but that's it. Nothing magnificent. Lighting is flat, detail lacking, etc. Sorry, but the Emperor has no clothes.

Yuri where are you?

Jayme, I'm sure you meant some other Yuri :) - but I find this photo in the "wow!" class... IMHO your criticism is very misplaced... One quickly realizes how hard it is to shoot pics like this as soon as you try to simply shoot a bird in your backyard, let alone ever catch anything close to this...

David - accept my sincere jealousy ( :-) ), and congrats!

P.S. Would you provide any details? Your equipment, exposure, location, etc.?

Thanks everyone for your kind comments and encouragement!! I am surprised that this image is so ppular, I like it a lot but didnt expect this great response!

Yuri, thank you very much especially. I used a Canon 1D MK 111 with a Canon 500 f4 IS lens. It was shot at 1/2000th of a second aperature f5.6 and was manually exposed and handheld.

Great title (even if the only human that would ever try catfish as sushi would be the one with no fire option). It's truly humorous and so many who take spectacular shots such as this one tend to become a bit serious about it. My compliments to you on all levels.

I can appreciate the difficulty in capturing this image, I do understand. But..... just because it's difficult does not automatically make it a wonderful image. Excuse my bluntness & rude comment above, I did not mean to be rude, just honest.

Amazing shot.In response to some criticisms: The light in wild life is never flat is what is available. The patience and field research can sometimes pay of with a few seconds of a photographic chance like this. The sky is always too bright and you have to have the manual settings ready at all times to expose the subject perfectly. To me is a gift given to a wild life photographer because of his dedication. After all my speach if you have taken this shot in a zoo please take the secret to your grave:o)

I'd love to have been there too.

After reading all the comments , I think its the nice size catfish that makes this shot so good , really its just another osprey shot like so many others, and a good one at that, but the fish is the photo , so Great catch it is for Osprey and you David, regards Robert

Yes, without the fish its just another osprey photo. But with the fish it becomes a hard to get photo, thus enviable. One of the hardest combos to expose properly in my opinion. The osprey, with fish, against the sky.....Of course having the mark III don't hurt.
