Beautiful shot, and a really gorgeous portfolio, Deiter...

 

I like the composition so much, but unlike almost all your other shots, this one feels a little flat to me in terms of the lighting. There is so much potential for drama and depth here that I think you could explore. I think the whole thing could be brightened up a bit, the highlights in the sky and the midtones in the hills especially. Gorgeous location, though...

I have gotten tired of seeing waterfalls smeared with long exposures. This one is nice because it shows the detail of the water and is so dramatic and stark. GOod work.

kari, i was a bit hesitant to dramatize this picture, but as you say it would certainly look more interesting. i shall submit a modified version

james, i completely agree with you, since the structure of the falling water is one of the fascinating effects of a large waterfall. it was simply by following a general trend that i softened the water structure in some of my pictures. i think softening is only justified if one wants to stress the contrast between the fluid medium water and the surrounding rocks
