laurent_jaussi 0 Posted August 23, 2007 I like the composition and the color treatment....it suits well the subject which make me think of the 70's...really nice... Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted August 24, 2007 A great capture of a distinct period, obviously one fading away quickly. Love the style, the way the light just behind the "jet-age" motel highlights it, the tract homes peeking out from the sidelines supporting the nostalgic style. I love the arrow here on the left and the angle of the wires above gives a lot to the composition. It is keenly seen and you seem always to stand in just the right location. I notice that again and again. On the esthetics score, I'd appreciate a little more detail in the heavily shadowed area at the lower part of the building and the ground right below, including the bush just to the far side of the motel. That feels like a photographic black hole. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 24, 2007 Thanks. I knew this would not be a wildly popular image. Still, it was my vision. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted August 24, 2007 Thanks again for the comment. This might be a bit over processed, but it is the treatment I thought the place deserved. I could have shown more detail as you suggested, but really wanted to contribute to the "Twilight Zone" style of creepiness that I felt when viewing it. I don't know about you, but sometimes to me those things from the past seem as if they were based in a different world or reality. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted August 27, 2007 The processing is a little bit too obvious, yet I think it suits the image. At least it didn't harm the atmosphere. Like someone posted above: it has a 70s feel to it, although I believe the motel was in better shape back in the seventies than it is now. Anyway, I like subjects like this - great work. bosshogg 4 Posted August 27, 2007 Yes, it is very obviously over processed, but done so deliberately. I just felt it was from another place and another time, and the processing gave it that kind of otherworldly appearance. Like you said, it got a seventies look, so I tried to make the postcard look time warped. Link to comment
