I captured this image while camped off trail in one of my favorite

areas of the Oregon Cascades. The mountain mist rolled in just as the

sun arose and illuminated the high peaks above, a fortunate occurance

to say the least, which brought a surreal, dreamy atmosphere to the

landscape complimented by the finest display of wildflowers I have

seen this year.

This is a great photo Marc, the mist adds a surreal feel to an extrodinary landscape. The wildflowers look fabulous, I love the punch of colours.

I absolutely love this shot! Not a thing I would change. You sure did capture a magical moment in time. Great job!

Marc- This is really great. Great mix of lighting, contrast, and subject matter near to far. The shot would've been nice w/o the mist, but here it provides a surreal effect that doesn't look like a filter. The clarity on the flowers in the foreground is nice and everything looks vibrant w/o being oversaturated. Nice outline of the mts. against the skyline too. I think this is as close to what you saw when you were there, correct?

This is very close to what I saw, Brad. The image is very close to the original RAW file except some minor color tweaks. The sky is a bit darker due to the grad, but I like it that way. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

I hope it wouldn't offend you if I said that you make me sick? :)

Stunning shot, you put out consistantly high quality everything. Very dreamy, the skylined of the mountains is almost surreal. Great shot.

Its definitely surreal! Great work Marc. This is a one of a kind scene. The colors of the flowers are outrageous, the craggy mountains bathed in alpenglow, diffused by the misty fog. So many strong elements tied together in one capture. You are so connected, you probably don't even need an alarm clock.

as ever, but there seems to be a slight halo around the peaks ... otherwise excellent.

Marc - thanks for reply - yes, I see it now. the vignetting (if there's such a word) gives the halo effect towards the sides. "as ever" should be read: "excellent, as ever ..."

Stuart - as ever, I have applied a slight vignette to the image. The edges of the peak remain untouched, however.

Dear Mark , I always like your photos, but I do not like the effect on this one , maybe it was cloudy or something , but I like your previous photos better.

Indeed the wild flowers are ... extremely beautiful ; I'm sure it was a great moment , with this fog ... very good work as usual . !!

Hi Marc, I really think this is special for two reasons. I'd be interested in your thoughts. First, I just think the situation is incredible. I have spent a great deal of time outdoors and never seen anything like this. Second, the placement of the yellow flowers is interesting to me. I wonder, was this forced by the position of the other flowers or did you purposefully put the yellow flowers in the left corner? If you did, I think that is the really brilliant thing about this composition. I would probably not have done this because I might have thought that it would take away from the symmetry of the image. But I would have been wrong because, at least to me, it works wonderfully. As always, it's a great pleasure to follow your work. All the best, Jeremy

The edges of the peak are unnatural and exhibit sharpening halos.  They are a pain to remove but with the amount of PS work already, a little more wouldn't go astray..

Why make the same comment about 30 of my photos, John, when I can't see it and no one else has any idea what you're seeing.  Web compression is a fact of life and so is sharpening for web.  I suggest you just deal with it.
