It almost looks like this egret is suspended in mid-air until you see the flowing feathers trailing from its head which makes you feel the air and movement.

 

Your decision to crop the bottom wing is bold but works well with the simple colors here. Usually I like to see the whole bird but the impact of this composition has me reconsidering that thinking.

Beautiful photo. I love those deep blues. I have a similar shot, same angle and with the deep blues... but alas, it was out of focus (but the closest to being infocus shot i have ever gotten with my manual focus camera...:).
