marcadamus 1 Posted August 13, 2007 Well, I haven't done this before, but in the case of this particular image I feel it's best to show the photograph much larger than the maximum uncompressed resolution of about 640 pixels (long side) on this website. Therefore, you must see the "Larger" version to appreciate the fine details that make this photograph work. Otherwise, you get a lot of compression damage to the image. This vast expanse was captured from my campsite at over 9000 feet on Washington's Mount Rainier, looking towards the North Cascade range at sunset. The 'Larger' version (975 pixels) really puts you there! Thanks for commenting. Link to comment
dirtlawyer 0 Posted August 13, 2007 Absolutely fantastic. What lens did you use, and at what focal length? Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted August 13, 2007 Canon 70-200 f/4 at 80mm, 1/60 second, f/8, gitzo tripod. Link to comment
lalit 0 Posted August 13, 2007 Yes, larger version is a real treat. You live to your words of uniqueness of the landscape you produce and such a great inspiration. I think the bottom 2/3 rd is what most interesting, the pattern formed by the ridges and the fog entering the valleys. Light is beautiful and soothing. The distant volcano (Mt. Baker?) seems too distant and not the most attracting element and so are the open skies, although I can understand they play vital role in displaying complete landscape. Here is an alternative with little cropping at the top, I thought could keep the eye at the most beautiful element of this shot. As I said it is beautiful itself, this is just an alternative I couldn't resist to try and see :-) Link to comment

marcadamus 1 Posted August 13, 2007 I definitely like it with more breathing room at the top. I'd much rather have in included. It adds a lot more depth in my opinion and leads the eye towards the distance. I don't dislike the crop, but prefer the whole thing. Link to comment
enunez 0 Posted August 13, 2007 It definitely puts you there. I love the layers towards the distance, and the light hitting the fog. I like the amount of sky included, and the closest foreground really adds dimension to the photo. Link to comment
rajeevthomas 1 Posted August 13, 2007 Marc!! This is one of your best I think...well then again that's what I say for one of your new pictures.... :-) love the layers...the clouds and light that illuminates everything. I love the whole thing as well..not the crop....thank you for the larger version...it took me a second to breath when I saw it larger!!!. Just curious how long did it take for you to get up there? marcadamus 1 Posted August 13, 2007 Thanks. It was nearly a vertical mile of hiking from the trailhead, which was below the cloud-line seen in this image. I recall we it in about 5 hours with a pretty big packs on. My long time girlfriend, Annie, joined me in the ascent. Link to comment
stanton imaging 0 Posted August 13, 2007 stunning work as always worth all the hard climbing? Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted August 13, 2007 David, it's worth it even without any photos. I never came up here to take photographs. I came up here because it was there, and it was a beautiful place. Link to comment
anish 0 Posted August 13, 2007 Marc, I love that you put the wilderness experience first, and allow your photography to flow from that experience. In my opinion, this is what allows your work to transcend good and become great. Another awesome shot. Anish Link to comment

stuart_williams 0 Posted August 14, 2007 excellent, as ever. the light and depth in particular. don't like the crop suggested above. one niggle: the black blob in the bottom left corner distracts. Link to comment

paul_d7 0 Posted September 30, 2007 Beautiful capture. Cropping any of this would be like cutting notes out of Mozart's Symphony No. 29. It's as it should be. Your continually growing gallery of the beauty of Creation is such a gift to all of us. -Paul Link to comment
