susan stone 0 Posted August 12, 2007 If I'm attracted to a "bug or bird" shot enough to leave a comment it's usually because the subject is surrounded by it's habitat and that gives the critter some context. Your last two butterfly shots are way more appealing than the grasshopper? shot you posted a few days ago. The butterfly just "glows" set against the background of the thistles. Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted August 12, 2007 Susan, thank you for commenting. The 'Grasshopper' photo was actually a Beetle and was part of a tutorial I did for someone. It was taken with a flashlight and some tape (Beetle was freed after the photo). I was attempting to point out that we don't need expensive equipement to take good photos. Link to comment

andrea allison 0 Posted August 26, 2007 All ways appreciate your vibrant colors Dave. Love the blooming Thistle behind the butterfly. I just got back the other day from the Caribou, beautiful Country up there. Lots of these Thistles, which I learned to love, watching the way the sunlight rests on them at the end of the day. katzpjs 50 Posted August 26, 2007 I love photographing both butterflies and thistles. We have plenty of thistles but not so many butterflies. Each year our Woodland Park Zoo has a huge tent full of butterflies and flowers. That is really the only place that I can see butterflies close-up around Seattle. I love your image and I don't consider it to have too much plant life in it. Link to comment
