Hi Russell, Roger and Shane, This was shot with a 60mm macro at f. 2.8 hand held. The only photo shop was a slight clone to remove a small blemish on a petal and a minor crop to change the angle a bit. Sometimes you just get lucky. Thanks for taking the time to rate and comment it is always appreciated.

Very beautiful and calm picture. The colours are great. Only the focus point could be few mm upper for my taste. But thats only my opinion, work good this way too.

Thanks Antanas, Tero & Andrew for taking the time to share your thoughts. Tero; this was hand held at 2.8 on a breezy afternoon, so focus was a challenge. That being said; I like the focus where it is at the bottom and I rejected a similar frame with the focus dead center. This way my eyes sees crescents with the focus in the center I see circles. I thanks you for sharing your opinions as this is the entire point of putting photos up for critique.

Now that I know this image is of organic origins, I like it even more, it is a interesting image and has drawn a lot of comments ranging from calm, to being on fire. I would definitely not call it a calm image. It is the feeling of movement that makes it special. It is probably the kind of image we could sit down and drink a bottle of wine why discussing it somewhere in cyberspace........

Part of what I am quickly growing to like about photo.net is the range of different feedback a single image can provoke, whether it be one of my own, or another members thread. Until I joined all this stuff just sat on my hard drive slowing down my computer. I agree Roger, this image does not feel calm to me but I have no trouble imagining that it could have that effect on Tero. I had actually likened the upper petals to flames before Andrew mentioned this, something about the curves. Roger; I'll take you up on that glass of wine so long as I can envision myself sitting down at your glass table watching the sun go down over the sea.

I love the sense of movement in several directions...the swirl of the petals counter clock-wise and the more circular movement of the center. I've enjoyed the discussion here as well...and your thoughts behind why you created the shot as you did, Gordon. Nice work.

Thanks Jack for the kind words and for sharing your observations. By all means pull up a chair and pour yourself a glass. :-) BTW I had a first look at your portfolio today and left a comment, I'll be back again to browse soon.
