someoneelse 1 Posted August 10, 2007 Maria Indalecio, August 08, 2007; 07:20 A.M. Nice photo :-) Paul Chilton, August 08, 2007; 08:19 A.M. This picture is spoilt by the fact that nothing is in focus. Even though it is a dramatic scene you still have to get a good picture of it otherwise it is a missed opportunity. Eduardo Agustin Carrasco, August 08, 2007; 09:24 A.M. very nice shot Daniella Fairbanks, August 08, 2007; 10:19 A.M. Eca!!!!Unfocus, but nice moment.DF someone else, August 08, 2007; 11:28 A.M. (edit | delete) Thank you all so much for your comments, you are all right about the not focus, but strange 'me' perhaps, I realy do like it this way, I did see ofcourse the not focusing part, I even did put it on PN, I can see through the not focising part... I did make it in PS even more 'grafic'-kind to let it look like a 'picture/drawing/painting' but I understand what you all mean, and I realy apreciate your honest comments, makes the 3's much more understanding (we all look with different eyes) with love Els Pawel Sawicki, August 08, 2007; 12:01 P.M. Unfocus is a problem here, but thanks to that it gets a mood of a very quick shot, as a hunt quick is. I really like this dynamics and scene. Afshin Azizi, August 08, 2007; 05:09 P.M. Great shot and timing but as my friend said it is out of focus but focusing is never so important for me and I think that it is great not for its quality for your eye to take it and your great timing.Regards Sky Blue, August 08, 2007; 11:17 P.M. Thank goodness, Els, for different eyes. We need varied images and personalities. I appreciate this photo. It serves to remind us of our primative beginnings and precarious standing in the world. How quickly a well-fed cat can return to this natural estate. Regards, ~Sky cherlyn ., August 09, 2007; 04:43 A.M. The relistic game of predator & prey in action. For me I like the 'not so focus' here as it reduce the 'cruelty & bloodshed' visibility of the hunt. The effect, in fact, makes this artistic. Ruud Albers, August 09, 2007; 05:18 A.M. Een prachtige opname, Els! Link to comment
someoneelse 1 Posted August 10, 2007 This is a repost, and now for critique only because of this: There are 12 anonymous raters who rated the photo in the "Rate Recent Photos" or "Rate Category" features, with an average score of 3.58 for Aesthetics, and 4.25 for Originality. There are some Top Rated Photos rankings, including the default, which use only the anonymous ratings from the Rate Recent feature. -- I am a little bit stupid and childish, I want to say I don't mind low ratings, but this is in my eyes much to low ( although I understand it) Link to comment
kirk d 0 Posted August 10, 2007 Good shot! The out-of-focus doesn't bother me. First thing I did was laugh at the drama, say "that's cool" and wondered what that string is on the floor coming out from beneath the wiskers. I didn't even think of the focus issue until I read the other posts. Seems natural with an action shot, most of the components in the picture except for the cat's eye are mottled and would be hard to distinguish even if in focus; you've got the cat's mottled brown/tan/black fur, the wood grain on the floor and the different greys on the mouse. I'm not sure it would be as interesting if it were tack sharp. If you back away from the monitor, it does look in focus; so, if you print it and hang it, don't go very big with it for the people who need things to be gin clear. Kirk Link to comment
someoneelse 1 Posted August 10, 2007 As you all can see I repost this picture, but I did copy the comments, because there are very understandable why I did get some 3's, not in my eyes, I look different... and to be honest, it is not nice to have those threes, I admit I am a little bit childish, or perhaps a lot ;D... I will grow over it ! hahaha thanks for looking Els Link to comment
someoneelse 1 Posted August 10, 2007 No Kirk, I will not make a big deal of it ofcourse, I even put in a smaller format, so the out of focus thing they are talking about.. is not so good to see... hahahaha... but you can read the other comments, also from me and I keep always smiling, sometimes i just do things and regret it later, but that is also me, I am justme I think ;D Link to comment
someoneelse 1 Posted August 10, 2007 BIG smile Kirk... perhaps I say something else, but nobody else has to know that I am someone else, justme Els Link to comment
cycler48 8 Posted August 10, 2007 I understand your frustration with the anonymous low raters. Give constructive critique with your low rating or go away. I have a special photo in my portfolio for them. That being said, I like what you've captured. Of course, you already knew the focus wasn't great and it does detract somewhat. If it pleases you this way, that's what matters the most. As Rick Nelson sang .. "You can't please everyone, so you gotta please yourself." Link to comment
someoneelse 1 Posted August 10, 2007 Hi Mark, this was the first time there were also not anonymous low raters, I think, now I am not sure anymore, wich I did apreciate very much, open honest rating/commenting, but I am just kind of childish, I don't want to have those low ratings in my portfolio... so I repost it, and I also have a folder now for critique only thanks to the RAT(er)S --Thanks for your time Els Link to comment

pnital 36 Posted August 20, 2007 Dear Elsi, the 3/3's epidemic, is all over... go into my site, nearly ALL my photo have at least one 3/3 in it, not one of them explaining it, The rating system is fa **** up. I stoped rating because I appreciate comments as a better evaluation most of the time, if it is well done. and thats what I try to do. The photo is a wonderful catch of the "food chain" in nature. while the cat eat's it she moves in the action, and it is very hard to do it always in focus., but the moment is very good! someoneelse 1 Posted August 20, 2007 Thanks dear PN ina, I know ofcourse this idiotic 3/3 raters, but I still won't give up saying something about it, much to easy... to give up.... hahahaha.... and I know they are everywhere, perhaps it is better to put it for critique only, but then perhaps nobody will see the picture, ah I don't know PN ina, there are also very clever people, who have now a very high average, and don't put them anymore for rating so they will be somewhere on the beginning of a frontpage... knweinhold 0 Posted December 14, 2009 Years later, but I have to comment that I like the defocus, and it appears to me that the cat's eye is in focus (more or less) which gives emphasis to the eye which is what the photo needs, imo. I can't imagine it being different and looking better. Link to comment
