I got back from Africa last week. I have 2312 photos from two weeks spent there. I actually could easily have taken more, but I was actually working as a volunteer, so I didn't have a lot of time to use my camera. :-) Anyway, I thought I'd start with some photos of the women I worked with. The organization is called Amani ya Juu, which in Swahili means, "Higher Peace". It is a reconciliation project, teaching marginalized women to sew so that they can have a trade and thus support themselves and their families.

Maggie is a bundle of joyfulness! She is the perfect person for customers to meet first when they arrive in the shop. She quickly learns their names, talks with them, makes sure that they find what they are looking for in the shop. She is constantly "up", positive and cheerful. :-)

Photographically, what do you think? Are the hotspots (taken indoors using a flash) too distracting? How is the exposure of her skin? DOF? Any other thoughts?

I will look forward to hearing from you..... :-)

A great smile, and a great portrait. Looks like you have had a great time in Africa. Best regards, Torfinn.

This is a nice environmental portrait, Lou Ann :) I like it. You can tell she deals with fabric (background), so it tells a story. I would crop a bit from the bottom because....you guessed it!...her top is too bright a pink :)
