Abandoned Farmhouse, Brownsmead

robertbrown

Shot in late afternoon, mixed light. Handheld @ 1/60. Developed and printed in home darkroom. Turned to subtle duotone in PS. 11x14 print looks better than screen image.

Nice one Robert... but I would have cropped the left side right into the evergreen.... I think the lighter section at the left side of the photo pulls the eye away from the main subject.

Keep up the good work.

Very nice. I agree with Ian to crop the left side, and the bottom too, so as to have the farmhouse at the intersection of the thirds. Classical, yes, but the subject require it. Or... I think the square size works also if you want to keep the lighted grass.

Another great shot. I would experiment with slightly more contrast (key word being experiment because maybe you already have).

No cropping required as the farmhouse isn't the only purpose behind this photo. Showing more of the landscape emphasizes the isolation and loneliness. Maybe at one time it was a warm and vibrant situation with a house full of family. One thinks that prior to abandonment there would likely only be one person left living there - so the scene to me echoes with poignancy.

Either that or there is a freeway 60' to the left of the picture :).
