robertbrown 1 Posted March 11, 2002 Comments, ratings appreciated on this black and white shot. I was out shooting some other stuff when I noticed these daffodils. Tried to get an interesting angle on them. Used very shallow depth of field. Interested in comments especially on composition and b&w tones. Thanks. Link to comment
scott_cary 0 Posted March 11, 2002 The flowers don't stand out enough from the background. Perhaps if more of them were in bloom or maybe use of color would help distinguish your subject from the background. That's a thought... can you colorize that one bloom yellow? I don't know how to do that but I've seen it done before in other photos with good results. Link to comment
teffy 0 Posted March 11, 2002 Even with the shallow DOF, I still find the lines of the trees in the background distracting. How do you like this cropped version instead? I do like the B&W and the daffs. Link to comment
ian_greant 0 Posted March 11, 2002 I kinda like it Robert.. personally I would have dodged the trees down a bit and gone for bit more contrast. I think the composition is pretty good though. Link to comment
mark_smith12 0 Posted March 12, 2002 I like the composition and you did a good job of comming up with an interesting angle. There isn't enough contrast though. Since you did this at home, I think I would try the following. 1. Dodge the high background. Darken it up to provide the needed contrast. 2. I think I might experiment with dodging the main flower just a touch to soften it a little. I don't particularly like the cropped version posted. The print needs the high background, it just needs to be darker. Link to comment
billmagee 0 Posted March 12, 2002 I cant add anything constructive that has not been said. But I dont think all the flowers need to be open in fact the singleton open flower is interesting. Link to comment
