This is a very old mine originally it was worked by German miners in

the 1500 for Copper they called it God?s Gift as it was such rich

mine. The local name for it is Gold scope its is one of the best

examples of a mine from that time. The impact these old mines have

on the landscape of our area is significant especially after over

500 years.

Hi Richard. I've been sitting here trying to figure out what I'm looking at :) A tunnel of sorts for sure. I really like the details in the tunnel, and I can totally understand how difficult it is to get that exposure bang on in situations like this. I think the light at the end of the tunnel is a bit over exposed, not sure if you wanted it to be that way or not. The bits of light reflecting off the water in the foreground add that little extra touch and make this image all the more interesting. Would love to hear your thoughts on this one also.

Fascinating shot, Rich! I love the colors and the details. I think you're slightly wacko for going inside that shaft - those old mines scare the heck out of me. This composition does make you stop and look at it to figure out what's going on. Nice work. Cheers! Chris

one of the toughest exposure you can do...

Technical: can't get it much better than this

Aesthetics: Colors, composition and detail all good.

Assignment: I'm glad you did the commentary to describe this... This has a natural look to it..

This is a well accomplished photograph

Amazing take on the title. To see that man can go right through rock - right through solid earth. The colours are fantastic and I am impressed with the amount of detail in the small stones even in the center of the tunnel. Great job!

Rich, I love the colors here...very warm and vibrant. Interesting take on the subject. I would never have thought this was a mine...maybe a tunnel, but not a mine. Thanks for including the background info. Is this as narrow as it looks? I can't imagine working in a small space like that...a bit (ok a lot) claustrophobic! :)

I love how you can see the water going through this.

The funny thing is you "know" this is man made because of the straight edges on the right side.

BUT, now that it has been so many years nature has taken over and it has become beautiful.

You have made this a wonderful picture. :)

And you crawled in there? Or is it slightly bigger than it looks? At first I thought there were two sides and you approached one, but then I realized the light on the rocks in the foreground is flash... I guess it isn't too claustrophobic with the entrance in plain sight. Great image, great idea! I think you hit the nail on the head.

I would tweak the exposure of the area outdoors just a little. I took the liberty.

Good God! I hadn't even considered that you were inside it when you took this...oh man, I'm getting freaked out just thinking about being in that tiny space! I assumed that you were outside another entrance looking in...which is why I thought it looked more like a tunnel. Oh man!

Sharp image. I look at this and try to figure out how you got such perfect exposure throughout. I have taken a few pics in situations simular and they did not turn out so well. Im so jealous.

Very interesting shot Richard. I would have liked it if we could not see the light at the end as this does seem to pull my eye and the details in the walls seem very interesting indeed. As to the stones on the ground and the light hitting them.

Richard, I like that you've picked something so obviously man made. The tunnel seems to be from another planet, but the hillside at the end brings us back to earth. Very interesting shot, Oliver

Thanks Oliver, I think of the images I took this is my favorite I took quiet a few of the large spoil heaps outside which impact the eviorment more than the tunnel but did not make such a good image.
