shea 0 Posted July 20, 2007 Cool micro! Do you have others in this series? I mean with more flame? Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted July 20, 2007 A nice idea Dennis. I wish that I'd thought of it first, but my brain is on the downward side of the hill... Link to comment
richygale 0 Posted July 20, 2007 Dennis, this is so cool, great macro shot and a super take on the moment theme. I like how you have just captured the start of the process. Very good work well done. Rich. Link to comment
jan_piller 0 Posted July 20, 2007 How the heck did you get this!? What timing!! I saw the others too so not sure which one you prefer - are you looking for opinions? This is amazing Denni-cass. You nailed the theme! The exposure is - well - striking!! Awesome pic! Link to comment
JohnMWright 1 Posted July 20, 2007 When I saw the first one posted last night (was too tired to comment then, but my initial reaction was "WOW!"), I wondered if you had a sequence, glad to see you do. Have you thought about doing a triptych? Very original idea Dennis. A great take on "moment". Given the title, I understand why you choose this image of all them as the first to post. I think the others may have just a little more punch visually, which is why I suggest a triptych - you can have it all. ;-) What are the light areas on either side of the match? They seem a little distracting. An idea for experimentation: have you tried a slower shutter speed to blur the matchstick? Link to comment
dennis jones 0 Posted July 20, 2007 trying to keep the strike area still. I ended up duct taping the box to a log and then used one hand to start striking the match and one hand pulling the trigger. I had the camera in burst mode (6.5 frames sec, I believe) I did get a lot of frames with nothing in them... Link to comment
dennis jones 0 Posted July 20, 2007 had to look up the word.... Great idea and I'll start working on one now.... Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 64 Posted July 21, 2007 I like all of these, Dennis, but this one is special for me since you have caught it at very near the moment of ignition. I'm wondering how many matches you went through before you got what you wanted. --Lannie Link to comment
mvisionphotography 1 Posted July 22, 2007 I can't wait till I have more time to look at all of them! Study them closer! :) Link to comment

anthonyd 0 Posted July 28, 2007 THE THEME: I saw your other shots from this session. The more flame, the cooler the shot. However, I think that you are right on with this one being your choice. This truly is "The Moment" of no return. VISUALLY: It draws my attention, not just with the flame but also keeps my attention with the objects around it. Interesting shapes and patterns. TECHNICALLY: Nice exposure and good detail. SUMMERY: I like it overall. Especially the way the textures in this shot range from flaming hot to stone cold as do the colors. If I were to try something different, it would be to have the match stick lead out to one corner so that it didn't seem so centered. ~Anthony Link to comment
dennis jones 0 Posted July 28, 2007 I was spinning the match in one place to give me a better chance at catching the moment... I kinda like the stick where it is, but I had a couple where the stick was more off centered and it does look nice... Link to comment
