Great job, on the composition, the texture and tone values are what make the image work so well, the saturated sky is another great thing. Congratulations!

Hey, Rachel, this is a wild shot! My problem is the following; it looks to me that the middle-ground is gone, and that the distant clouds have been dropped right down on the foreground surface of the surf. Is that what you intended? If so, you got it spot-on. Is it a blend of two images? They are both certainly very dramatic, but it just doesn't work for my eye. I love the B&W conversion though. Let me know what's up here, and if I'm totally hallucinating. Cheers! Chris

It is what I intended to drop the clouds down to ground level, but I hadn't decided whether I liked it that way or not....I like the way it brings them closer and makes them part of the action, but I do agree that there's a bit of an 'off' feeling about it. I'll post a different version with a bit more distance if I can get it to work - I'd be interested to hear if you think it looks better.

Rachel, that is better to my eye. I know - I'm probably too rigid, but when I looked into the image my eye just went, 'Huh?' I appreciate the explanation, it does help that you were trying something artistic, and that I hadn't lost my mind. I think I understand what you're doing philosophically, i.e., 'merging,' if you will, the drama and power of the stormy sky and surf. Thanks for the feed-back, Rachel, and keep up the great work! Cheers! Chris

I think that when used purposively, that 'huh?' feeling can be very effective - but I'm still working on that. :-) I'm not sure about the version 2 either though - it makes a little more sense, but the clouds now seem to be sort of hovering slightly above the water in the middle-ground, rather than coming in with it. I guess I'll just keep experimenting. Thanks for your feedback!
