mvisionphotography 1 Posted July 19, 2007 Working on doing something different and as is with the flowers. Texture and colors. Please let me know what you think (this is nor manipulated). I dedicate this picture to my friend JAN who pushes me hard and tells me NOT to stop where I am at in my quest to just do the norm! The friendship. Thanks JAN! ;) Link to comment
bob_belanger 1 Posted July 19, 2007 I think your getting the hang of it. Nice colors, but I think the guy on the left may lack some detail. Overall a nice composition with a nice background and nice dof. Link to comment
mvisionphotography 1 Posted July 19, 2007 Thanks Bob, it was one of those is the "bud" closer or the other flower closer kind of picture. I was really focusing on the "bud" and then I realized when I took this that the other flower was in the picture as well. Link to comment
snapshooter 0 Posted July 19, 2007 You have a beautiful shot here, Micki. I can't say I agree with the comment about lack of detail in the foreground flower. It has sufficient soft detail, and anymore would fight for attention with the bud and leaves. It is already quite dominant in size and colour, and tends to accentuate the sharpness of the bud and intricate leaf pattern. Unless you wanted the bud and leaves soft, a bit of Sharpen improves the separation from the background. I tried a slightly different crop, but yours is better. I'll attach it just to illustrate the difference the Sharpen makes. Link to comment
jan_piller 0 Posted July 19, 2007 It really embodies the title The Friendship - I can see the little bud getting all buddy buddy with the big flower in the garden! hehehe Your DOF is beautiful. But one of your statements up above is puzzling me. You say you were focusing on the bud and you didn't even realize the bigger flower was in the picture. HOW DOES ONE MISS SUCH A BIG FLOWER IN THE VIEWFINDER????? hehehehe - so I will pass along the first rule of composition. If it's in the viewfinder or on the LCD screen, it will be in the picture! hahahaha I can't believe I'm critiqueing my own picture but here goes. I love the focus and your detail is just fine but if this is to be a friendship, then one flower should not overpower the other flower. And the big flower seems to be doing just that. So I would have just desaturated the big flower a tad. So I took it to show you what I mean. Thank you so much Micki!! I need flowers these days! Link to comment
mvisionphotography 1 Posted July 19, 2007 I am stuck where I can't play to much with them. Why did I miss the big flower? WELL I was focusing on the little bud and forgot about the BIG PINK FLOWER! HA I love the new crop AND I love the soft one you did. WHEN I UPLOADED it and saw it I immediately saw you and the fragility of the flower (for both of us) and YET the BIG FLOWER that represents strength!!!!!! WE both will make it ;) FRIENDSHIP JAN!!! FAR away ;) ~ I thank you! Everyone play with it ~ let's see what you come up with ~ ;) Link to comment
bob_belanger 1 Posted July 19, 2007 Micki, I think Jan has the right idea here. It shows how the big flower and the bud really do work well together for this composition and on another level teacher and student. Link to comment
