I cant figure out if the skyscrapers add or subtract.

 

 

On balance they subtract

Thanks Brian. I agree with you about the apartment buildings in the background detracting from the photo. I exposed at f4.5 to blur them a bit but not quite enough. At Sha Tin it is very difficult to get a gap in the near background anywhere along the home straight. I have written about this problem in my horse racing photography article at neilmurrayphotos.com You might like to take a look.

I feel if a background is used well as done here it adds to the subject, this was the environment of the and so adds placement to the riders and horses.
